Perry scores in shootout to lift Ducks over Kings

Los Angeles, CA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Corey Perry scored in the fifth-round of
the shootout to lift Anaheim past Los Angeles, 3-2, in the opener of a home-
and-home set at the Staples Center.
Teemu Selanne had a goal and an assist while Jean-Sebastian Giguere made 30
saves for the Ducks, who have won two in a row after a three-game skid.
Anze Kopitar posted a goal and an assist and Mathieu Garon ended with 32 saves
for the Kings, who have dropped four of their last five and 13 of 16.
The teams will be right back at it on Sunday in Anaheim.
Down a goal late in the third period, Kopitar netted the equalizer off a
pretty feed by Lubomir Visnovsky. From the left circle, Visnovsky faked a shot
and then sent a cross-ice pass that Kopitar deposited past Giguere to make it
2-2 with 5:14 remaining.
A late penalty on Kopitar gave the Ducks a power play that carried over into
the overtime period, but the Kings were able to kill it off, thanks in large
part to a couple huge saves by Garon.
Both teams came up empty in the extra five minutes and the game went to a
shootout, where Kopitar and Ryan Getzlaf both missed in the first round.
Michael Cammalleri used a nice deke to net the first score for LA, but Selanne
went top-shelf past a sprawled Garon to tie the shootout at 1-1.
Tom Kostopoulos then tried to go five-hole on Giguere but came up empty and
Andy McDonald had Garon beat but fanned on a wide-open net with a chance to
win it.
Dustin Brown also tried to five-hole on Giguere but suffered a similar fate
as Kostopoulos. Then, after Chris Kunitz came up empty and Alexander Frolov
lost control of the puck, Perry beat Garon five-hole to win it for the Ducks.
"I had a game plan going in," said Perry. "(Garon) reacted the way I was
hoping. I was able to get him to open his legs and it went in."
LA struck first with just eight seconds left in the opening period as
Alexander Frolov scored on the power play for his 31st tally of the season.
The Ducks answered with a power play marker of their own 3:22 into the middle
stanza as Selanne stuffed home a rebound for his 35th goal of the year.
Anaheim then grabbed the lead just under six minutes into the third period.
Garon managed to get a pad on McDonald's wraparound shot from behind the net,
but Kunitz was there to poke home the rebound for the goal.
"We had our opportunities," said Kings head coach Marc Crawford. "We didn't
capitalize, even in the shootout."

Stanley Cup betting
New York, NY – October 3, 2007 – The dress rehearsal is over! The NHL preseason has ended and now that fans have had a glimpse of what is to come it is time to hit the book! Stanley Cup odds are live at MySportsbook.com, the world’s largest online sportsbook and casino.
The Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings remain on top of the odds charts after an impressive start in the preseason. Betting lines opened for both teams at 6-1 in June. Since then the Sens have fallen to 7-1 and the Red Wings are now caught in a pack including the defending champion Carolina Hurricanes, the San Jose Sharks and the Anaheim Ducks, all at 10-1.
MySportsbook.com has also posted props on each team’s point total for the regular season. The Senators lead the charge at 108.5 followed by the Ducks at 106.5. Detroit will attempt a repeat for the prize as the Red Wings are deadlocked with the Predators at 104.5 a piece. The temporary loss of highly touted rookie Evgeni Malkin puts a lot of pressure on the stick of assistant captain Sidney Crosby - his lowly Pittsburgh Penguins are listed at 71.5.
Even if bettors are not brave enough to put their money on the underdog, an early bet on the favorites at sportsbook.com tends to produce bigger payouts than a mid-season wager. Placing a $1,000 bet last summer on the Detroit Red Wings or Ottawa Senators would have paid out to $8,000 and $10,000 respectively, opposed to a $2,500 or $3,000 payout at the beginning of the playoffs.
