Ferrero to meet Canas in final of Brasil Open

02/18/2007 - Costa do Sauipe, Brazil (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Top seed Juan Carlos Ferrero will meet unseeded Argentine Guillermo Canas for the title at the $456,000 Brasil Open after both men won two matches on Saturday.

Rain on Friday forced both players to take the court for their quarterfinal and semifinal matches, and now the two will battle for the $73,000 first-place prize.

Ferrero first beat Italian Potito Starace, 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 in the quarterfinals, and the Spaniard then topped Brazil's Flavio Saretta, 6-2, 6-4 in the semifinals.

Canas took out a pair of fellow countryman, first getting by second seed Agustin Calleri, 7-6 (7-3), 6-1, and then downing sixth seed Juan Ignacio Chela, 7-6 (8-6), 6-1 in the semifinals.

Ferrero will try for his 12th career title, while Canas goes after his seventh championship. The two have met one other time, at the Tennis Masters Series in Miami in 2005, with Ferrero winning in three sets.

The down side for Ferrero is that he hasn't won a title since 2003 and has lost in his last four finals. Canas' last ATP title came in Shanghai in 2004.

In the other two quarterfinal matches Saturday, Saretta beat third seed Nicolas Almagro of Spain, 6-4, 6-4, while Chela got past Argentine Juan Monaco, 6-4, 2-6, 7-5.
