Coyotes nip Predators in shootout
Hockey Betting Lines
02/02/2010 -
Nashville, TN (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Adrian Aucoin's goal in the 10th shootout
round lifted the Phoenix Coyotes to a 1-0 win over the Nashville Predators at
Sommet Center.
Ilya Bryzgalov and Pekka Rinne both earned a shutout in the contest, which
failed to produce a goal in 65 minutes of action.
Bryzgalov ended with 25 saves for Phoenix, which has won five straight games
and currently sits in fourth place in the overall Western Conference
standings.
Rinne turned aside 26 shots for the Predators, who fell to 1-5-1 in their last
seven games overall. Nashville will continue its four-game homestand on
Thursday against the Colorado Avalanche.
Lauri Korpikoski scored in the second shootout round and David Legwand
answered in the third frame to extended the contest. However, no shooter was
able to light the lamp through the next six rounds until Aucoin's laser wrist
shot from the low slot flew past Rinne.
Shea Weber's attempt failed and the Coyotes celebrated around Bryzgalov.
Following two scoreless periods, the action became a bit chippy in the third.
Midway through the third, Jordin Tootoo had a good look from the right side
with a wrister, but Bryzgalov made a nice glove save. Soon after, Martin Erat
was alone at the top of the crease, but failed to lift the puck high enough.
On the other end, Taylor Pyatt's slap shot from the slot whizzed high and wide
but missed the crossbar by inches.
In overtime, Aucoin fired a one-timer from the point, but Rinne made the
save. On the other end, Ryan Suter had a chance from the left point with a
wrist shot through traffic, but the disc was swallowed up.
With 40 seconds to go in OT, Joel Ward blocked a one-timer by Milan Michalek
from the high slot at the end of a 3-on-2 rush.
Game Notes
This marked the second time this season that Bryzgalov has been credited with
a shutout in a game that ended in a shootout. He has six whitewashes this
season, and Rinne earned his third...The Coyotes are now 13-10-3 on the road
this season and also won five straight earlier this season from November 27
through December 7...Prior to this one, the Preds had won three straight at
home versus Phoenix.
