Celtics, Nuggets clash in the Rockies
Basketball Betting Lines
02/21/2010 -
(Sportsbook Betting Lines) - A pair of division leaders clash late Sunday afternoon in
the Rocky Mountains, where the Boston Celtics take on the Denver Nuggets at
the Pepsi Center.
The Atlantic Division-leading Celtics have won three in a row and six of their
last eight games, including Friday's 96-76 victory at Portland. Ray Allen
finished with 21 points and Kevin Garnett added 16 points and seven rebounds
for Boston, which is 3-1 on a five-game road trip out west.
"It looks like we're starting to surface," Allen said. "We're coming back to
the reality of who we think we are, the team we started the season as."
Rajon Rondo ended with 10 points and 11 assists, as the Celtics improved to
20-9 away from TD Garden this season. Boston may not have newcomer Nate
Robinson on Sunday due to flu-like symptoms. The first ever three-time Slam
Dunk champion was acquired by Boston from New York earlier this week.
The Nuggets sit just a half-game in front of Utah for the Southwest Division
lead and have alternated wins and losses over their last eight games. In a
107-97 loss at Washington on Friday, Chauncey Billups had 28 points to lead
the Nuggets, who were coming off an exciting overtime win over Cleveland on
Thursday.
"We didn't pass it tonight. We have a selfish disposition at times," said
Nuggets head coach George Karl. "It might come from fatigue, it might come
from complacency. You can't beat anyone with 12 assists; it's just a joke."
Carmelo Anthony registered 23 points and seven rebounds, while Nene had 17
points and nine boards in defeat.
Denver is 23-5 as the host this season, the third-best winning percentage at
home in the NBA (Cavaliers, Lakers).
Sunday's matchup between the Celtics and Nuggets is the first of two this
season. They will also meet again on March 24 at Boston, which has won 14 of
21 and 16 of the last 24 meetings. The Celtics ended a four-game slide in the
Rockies with a 114-76 drubbing of the Nuggets on February 23, 2009.

Oddsmakers have released the odds for the 2009 AP NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award and Seattle Seahawks linebacker Aaron Curry has been made the opening favorite.
Bet on NFL Football
Seattle took Curry with the fourth overall pick in April's NFL draft and plan on inserting him into its starting lineup right away. The Hawks traded linebacker Julian Peterson in the offseason, so Curry is expected to have a significant role in Seattle's defense next year and that's one of the primary reasons he is the favorite to win the NFL ROY Award.
Oddsmakers from online sportsbook MySportsbook.com have made Curry a 5/1 favorite to win this year's NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award. Given that he was the best defensive prospect in this year's draft and how he'll have plenty of opportunities to make plays in '09, Curry offers a ton of value at 5/1.
Another thing working for Curry is the position he plays. A linebacker has won the defensive ROY award six straight times and eight of the last nine years. Jerod Mayo, Patrick Willis, DeMeco Ryans, Shawne Merriman, Jonathan Vilma, Terrell Suggs, Kendrell Bell and Brian Urlacher were the most recent linebackers to take home the award.
Following Curry at 5/1 are Tyson Jackson (Chiefs) at 7/1, James Laurinaitas (Rams) at 8/1, Brian Orakpo (Redskins) at 10/1, Rey Maualuga (Bengals) at 10/1 and Jerry Peria (Falcons) at 10/1.
All the players mentioned above are expected to start for their respective teams, but Jackson and Peria are going to have a tough time being recognized on a national level given they're both defensive linemen. D-linemen rarely put up the numbers that it takes to win an individual award like the ROY.
A couple of players with some value are Clay Matthews (Packers) at 12/1 and Larry English (Chargers) at 15/1. Matthews is expected to start at outside linebacker in Green Bay's new 3-4 defense and could rack up a ton of tackles. English, who was an impressive player at Northern Illinois, is expected to be a situational pass rusher for the Chargers and could rack up a ton of sacks.
