When the Winter Olympics and World Cup skiing season are over, Miller will attempt to qualify for the U.S. Open through a new national playoff system announced by the United States Tennis Association.

Tennis hopefuls from all over the U.S. can compete for a berth in the year's final Grand Slam event. The men's and women's playoff championship winners will receive wild cards into the U.S. Open qualifying tournament in August.

The 32-year-old Miller is no stranger to the tennis court, having captured the 1996 Maine state singles championship in high school, and his family owns a tennis camp his native New Hampshire.

Miller hopes to compete in a sectional qualifying tournament in the spring.

The two-time Olympic silver medalist Miller is a two-time overall World Cup champion alpine ski racer. His 32 World Cup race victories are an American record.
