Alfredsson returns, leads Sens over Habs

01/16/2010 - Montreal, QC (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Ottawa captain Daniel Alfredsson registered a goal and two assists in his return to the lineup, as the Senators doubled up the Montreal Canadiens, 4-2, at the Bell Centre.

Alfredsson had missed the previous 11 games with a separated left shoulder. The veteran Swede was hurt on a high hit doled out by Pittsburgh right winger Craig Adams in the first period of the Penguins' 8-2 win on December 23.

Mike Fisher, Chris Phillips and Zack Smith also scored for the Senators, who improved to 2-2-0 on a five-game road trip that ends Monday in Boston. Mike Brodeur, making just his third career start, stopped 30 shots for Ottawa.

Tomas Plekanec and Benoit Pouliot lit the lamp for the Canadiens, who went 2-1-1 on their four-game homestand. Carey Price made 24 saves in defeat.

Smith's first NHL goal -- a short-handed marker -- opened the scoring at 11:26 of the first period, but Pouliot tied the game 1:23 later.

Montreal led 2-1 after Plekanec found the back of the net at the 2:05 mark of the middle stanza. Ottawa, though, moved ahead with a pair of tallies in a 1:22 span.

Alfredsson scored on a backhander at 3:45 of the second period, then Phillips beat Price with a slap shot.

Brodeur turned aside all 10 shots he faced in the final 20 minutes, and Fisher sealed the victory with an empty-net goal with 26 seconds left in regulation.
